First Sewing Project - Pillowcase

Ready to move beyond sewing practice stitches and create your very first project?

Our First Sewing Project: Pillowcase class is the perfect next step for beginners and new sewists who are ready to build confidence with their sewing machine. This three-hour class is designed especially for students who have completed our Sewing Machine Basics class — or anyone comfortable with basic machine operation.

In class, students will create a beautiful pillowcase using French seams, a beginner-friendly technique that gives projects a clean, polished, professional finish inside and out.

We’ll be following the Lo & Behold Stitchery pillowcase tutorial and guiding students through the sewing process step-by-step in a relaxed, supportive environment.

During class, students will learn how to:

• Follow a sewing pattern/tutorial
• Cut and organize fabric pieces
• Sew straight, consistent seams
• Create French seams for a professional finish
• Press and assemble a simple sewing project
• Build confidence sewing independently

By the end of class, students will leave with a completed pillowcase and the skills needed to continue exploring beginner sewing projects at home.

To make getting started easy, pillowcase kits are available for purchase in the shop.

Important: Before class, students must visit the Lo & Behold Stitchery tutorial page, located here and click the link within the tutorial to have the PDF instructions emailed to them. Students are required to print and bring a paper copy of the PDF tutorial to class. Printed instructions help the class run smoothly and allow students to easily follow along during each step of the project.
