Glass Block Machine Embroidery with Cathy

Wednesday, October 21 | 10:30 AM–5:00 PM
Class Fee: $45

Turn machine embroidery into a glowing work of art! In this class, Cathy will show you how to embroider a beautiful design onto organza and display it on an illuminated glass block. Fairy lights tucked inside the block shine through the sheer organza, highlighting your embroidery and creating a unique lighted decoration.

Choose an embroidery design to match your style or the season—from florals and stained-glass designs to fall, Christmas, and more. Cathy will provide the organza and stabilizers and will help set up your glass block so your finished embroidered panel is ready to display.

Choosing Your Embroidery Design: Look for a design that is not too dense and will fit within approximately a 6.8"–7" square. Stained-glass, linework, floral, seasonal, and holiday designs work especially well because the fairy lights can shine through the open areas of the organza. Designs can be found at Embroidery Library, Urban Threads, OESD, Anita Goodesign, and other machine embroidery design websites. Please purchase and download your design before class and bring it in a format compatible with your embroidery machine.

Students should bring:

  • Glass block approximately 7.25" × 7.25", with an opening in the bottom for fairy lights
  • String of 20–50 fairy lights, battery- or USB-powered; lights with an automatic timer are a great option
  • Your purchased embroidery design, approximately 6.8"–7" square or smaller
  • Embroidery machine capable of using a 7" × 12" or 8" × 12" hoop
  • Appropriate embroidery hoop; a magnetic hoop works especially well
  • Embroidery threads needed for your chosen design

Come ready to stitch and leave with a beautiful illuminated embroidery project that really lights up the room! ?
